Learn to design and model 3D objects with SolidWorks, an industry standard, powerful computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D modeling software. Students will learn the foundations of 3D CAD modeling through assigned projects with the real-world applications of 1) designing and modeling of 3D objects for construction in metal, wood, or other materials, 2) rendering objects for presentation, and 3) creating digital designs ready for output to any computer numeric controlled (CNC) machine such as 3D printers, CNC routers and mills, CNC plasma-, water jet-, or laser-cutters, etc.

New students will learn through simple assigned exercises. Returning students may immediately start on independent projects with instructor guidance. Group demonstrations, class discussions, and one-on-one attention are used throughout the course to assist each student with their creative designing goals.

Please note: No experience required. Attendance in the first class is mandatory. Students will work on CIADC PC-based workstations. Everyone must bring a USB Flash drive (8MB or greater) to class each week, or purchase one from CIADC. Open Studio Access and Advanced Studio Access times available for additional fee. Natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe shoes are required while working at CIADC. Complete information given during class #1.
