Learn the benefits to using resin, i.e. “liquid plastic” with two common processes used for 3D sculptural, functional, and decorative works. Gain an understanding of the safety required when working with resin for casting and molding. Through assigned projects, beginning students will first explore fundamental mold making techniques and materials used for resin casting, and discuss common additives available to help make the resin casting unique. Students will then learn the advantages and techniques with resin composite molding - using fiberglass or carbon fiber cloth and resin combined - molded over a form in a hand-layup process. Continuing students may immediately work on independent resin casting or molding projects with instructor guidance.

Group demonstrations, class discussions, and one-on-one attention are used throughout the course to assist each student with their creative resin casting and molding goals.

Please note: No experience required. Attendance in the first class is mandatory. Students will be required to purchase an organic chemical respirator during class. Project material fees not included. Open Studio Access and Advanced Studio Access times available for additional fee. Natural fiber clothing, long pants, and closed-toe shoes are required while working at CIADC. Complete information given during class #1.
